This is a perfect example of, the blending of Maori culture with Christianity in reference to Hagoth the boat builder, as the Maori too were canoe builders. Hakota is depicted here among the most beautiful, bold, and intricate kowhaiwhai designs in Maoridom.
Hakota is centrally placed among the four canoes especially named in this meeting house, "Hawaiiki-Nui," "Hawaiiki-Roa," "Hawaiiki-Pamamao," 'Hawaiiki "Te-Hono-Wairua."
